Environment

Whether your shade of green involves planting flowers in a vacant lot, finding ways to eat locally and organically, or organizing for political action, Louisville has plenty of resources to help. Brightside (you'll hear everybody call it "Operation Brightside," the old name) is a partnership between city government and a non-profit agency. It's charged with beautification, anti-litter programs, and educating Louisvillians about ways to green the city. Louisville collects paper, plastic, metal and glass recyclables at curbside for residents within the former city limits (the "urban services district"); there are 17 drop-off recycling sites, and another for electronic devices. Meanwhile, a host of non-profit groups advocate for a cleaner environment and reduced energy use; they also provide valuable, Louisville-specific information on how to live a greener life - and keep Possibility City a possibility for centuries to come.
