Volunteer

Volunteers are the secret pulse of Possibility City, making everything from the Derby Festival to the airport to the city's schools work better. Louisville is a city that finds innovative ways to be generous. The WHAS Crusade for Children is a unique community telethon that raises over $5 million every year for special needs children. The Fund for the Arts was the country's first "community chest for the arts" - and remains one of the most successful. Every1 Reads has brought thousands of volunteers into the public schools to help every child improve their reading level. Many more organizations need your time and talents. A good starting point is Metro United Way's web site, which lists hundreds of opportunities, from database programming to being a giant puppet. Or visit the site of any Louisville organization you're interested in, and look for the omnipresent "Volunteer" link. Whatever interests you - volleyball, the library, the ballet, the zoo - there are opportunities for you to get involved and become part of that secret pulse, beating steadily throughout Possibility City.
