Frontier launched service between Louisville and Denver in April 2007 but terminated it in August 2008 amid the airline’s financial struggles.

The company filed for protection under Chapter 11 of the U.S. Bankruptcy Code in April 2008 and was purchased in August 2009 by Indianapolis-based Republic Airways Holdings Inc., which operates an aircraft maintenance hub at Louisville International Airport.

Louisville was one of four destinations Denver-based Frontier began serving Monday from its main hubs in Denver and Milwaukee. The airline also initiated year-round service to Austin-Straubel International Airport in Green Bay, Wis., and seasonal service from Milwaukee to San Francisco International Airport and San Diego International Airport.

On Tuesday, Frontier will begin service between Denver and Branson Airport in Missouri.

Frontier announced last week that it will merge operations with sister company Midwest Airlines.

Frontier operates more than 550 daily flights to more than 70 destinations in the United States, Mexico and Costa Rica.
