The Book Works

The Book Works advocates for and with young people who are disconnected from school and work due to educational disruptions, childhood trauma, racial or social discrimination, or economic hardship. Their mission is to promote equitable access to education and employment through programs, partnerships, information, and support services.

The Book Works uses a project-based learning model to provide an opportunity for young people to reconnect with school and work. While employed at The Book Works, team members develop workplace skills, solve problems as a team, and set individual and collective goals. In their 250-hour “internship”, participants design and manage a book or literacy-related project that aligns with their career interests while learning skills relevant to both school and work.
