
BULLITT COUNTY FISCAL COURT
The role of the Chief Building Inspector for Bullitt County Planning and Development is to enforce provisions of the Kentucky Building Code and referenced standards as well as serve as the Department’s Level III Building Inspector
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Serves the department as a Level III Building Inspector
Serves on committees and attends meetings as designated by the Director of Planning and Development and the Community Development Officer
Receives applications, reviews construction documents and issue plan reviews and approvals for the erection and alteration of buildings and structures
Inspects premises for locations where permits have been issued and enforces compliance with the provisions of the code
Keeps official records of applications received, permits and certificates issued, fees collected, and any inspections or notices performed.
Investigates and researches any complaints received on possible building code violations
May have to attend judicial proceedings
Acts as a liaison between Planning and Development and other agencies and organizations.
Establish educational programs and instruct other on building related topics
Perform other duties as required by the Director of Planning and Development and the Community Development Officer.
Acts as the MS4 Coordinator
Responds to complaints about possible violations of county ordinances involving storm water and illicit discharges
Meets with local, state, and federal officials to facilitate the coordination of intergovernmental programs
Prepares reports in a timely manner
REQUIRED TRAINING:
Per 815 KAR 2:010, 12 hours of continuing education are required annually
Must relate to general business and technical skills required of a certified inspector
SKILLS:
Proficient computer knowledge
Ability to be a self-starter and demonstrate management loyalty
Ability to communicate effectively
Ability to resolve problems and interpret policies and regulations
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Will supervise all Inspectors within the Planning and Development Department
EDUCATION:
High School Diploma
KY Certificate Level III Building Inspector
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license
Must pass a background check
Must pass a drug and alcohol screening
Must be available for on-call status
Must wear personal protective equipment as mandated by OSHA
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Working indoors in a professional office setting
Working outdoors
Different weather conditions to include extreme hot/cold temperatures
Driving thru (ice, snow, rain, etc.)
Commercial and/or residential sites that are under construction
Undeveloped outdoor areas (woods, etc.)
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Standing and/or walking for long periods of time
Occasional crouching, kneeling, crawling, bending, stooping, reaching, climbing, or balancing
Operating objects, tools, or controls while using hands
Clear vision and hearing
Possible lifting to 25lbs
Prolonged periods in a stationary position at a desk
Prolonged periods working on a computer
