Francis Parker School of Louisville is the only Independent, Progressive school located in Louisville, Kentucky serving students from Preschool through High School. We seek a High School History Teacher for the 2025-26 school year. The position will be primarily teaching Ancient Culture and Civilization, along with AP Comparative Government and semester-long seminar elective offerings. Our High School history curriculum begins with a two-year Culture and Civilization sequence (Ancient in 9th grade, Medieval in 10th). A required year of United States history, along with AP courses and seminar electives, round out the offerings. Recent electives have included The History of Money, Indigenous Studies, Gender Studies, Ecology & the Humanities, Criminal Law, Constitutional Law, 21st Century Retrospective, Queer Studies, Democracy in America, and Conspiracy Theories. The focus in all courses includes reading, writing, critical thinking, discussion, depth of inquiry, and culturally responsive teaching.

A bachelor’s degree (master’s or Ph.D. preferred) and some teaching experience are required; an understanding of Independent Schools, strong interpersonal skills, flexibility, the ability and desire to work collaboratively, and dedication to continuously developing and practicing cultural competence in one’s teaching are also essential. Extracurricular and/or athletic coaching ability is a plus.
