Kentucky Derby Museum is a 501(c)(3) non-profit charitable organization that sits on the front steps of historic Churchill Downs Racetrack. It is one of the premiere attractions in the Louisville region, celebrating the tradition, history, hospitality and pride of the world-renowned event that is the Kentucky Derby. The Museum welcomes over 240,000 visitors annually; a large percentage of those visitors come from outside of Kentucky, journeying from across the country and the world.
The Human Resources Manager works closely with the Museum’s Leadership Team to manage compliance, retention, training, and employee engagement. This position is also responsible for recruiting, assisting the payroll department, and administering the employee benefit and open enrollment process.
Manages all human resources functions of the Museum.
Participates with Senior Leaders to identify and implement organizational human resources policies and procedures.
Oversees all DE&I policies and procedures.
Updates, maintains, and assures compliance with Derby Museum Personnel Manual.
Administers the posting, recruiting, screening, and interviewing process to assist Team Leaders in filling staffing needs for all non-exempt and exempt positions.
Collaborates with the Payroll team and is back up for payroll administration as needed.
Performs background checks for employment candidates.
Develops, maintains, and manages employee orientation and training programs.
Helps to advance and guide professional development and training for Museum Staff.
Manages the performance evaluation process while providing guidance to team leaders.
Manages employee relations issues with department directors and managers.
Participates in the annual renewal of employee benefits and recommends needed changes.
Facilitates the annual open enrollment process and oversees employee benefit plans.
Administers 401(k) benefits in coordination with the Director of Finance & Accounting, facilitates new enrollment and assists participants with plan questions.
Oversees the annual professional insurance renewal process and maintains communication with Museum management on any ongoing changes.
Maintains Museum personnel files including salaries, benefits (including health, dental, and retirement savings), vacation and personal time off, and other personnel records.
Responsible for communicating Museum related emergency messages (IE: inclement weather closures, etc.).
Maintains and updates employee data using the HRIS payroll system.
Ensures compliance with all relevant federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations.
Additional responsibilities as assigned by the President & CEO and Vice President.
Knowledge and Skill Requirements
Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of five years of progressive human resources experience.
HR Certification a plus.
Experience working in a retail, hospitality, or related industry a plus.
Understanding of HR laws such as EEO, ERISA, ADA, FMLA, etc.
Experience with employee benefit plans and administration.
Paycor payroll, HR and ATS experience a plus.
Competent communicator with regard for confidential information.
Strong relationship management and cultural awareness.
Strong interpersonal skills and problem-solving ability.
Detail oriented with ability to manage multiple projects at a time.
