The Visitor Center Coordinator is responsible for overseeing the Center’s Merchandise Program, assisting the Manager in the daily operations of the Louisville Visitor Center (VIC), coordination of the Louisville Handcrafted Event series at the VIC, and providing service to Visitor Center guests. The Visitor Center Coordinator also participates in Tourism Development Department initiatives and collaborates with other departments within Louisville Tourism.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities:

Oversees the Visitor Center Merchandise Program:
Leads the purchasing process, creates purchase orders, places inventory orders, receiving orders, labeling, pricing, and stocking of merchandise, handle invoice procedures for payments with the finance department
Controls the online merchandise platform and oversees inventory made available for sale
Monitors inventory levels and orders merchandise and supplies according to need and budget guidelines
Operates the Point of Sales (POS) system to process sales, exchanges, returns, and other administrative functions to maximize sales
Works with the POS system contract administrators to keep equipment up to date and in working order; resolves system issues when they arise
Prepares all monthly accounting reports
Performs daily banking activities (makes deposits and gets change for register)
Manages bi-yearly physical inventory of all VIC merchandise
Analyzes sales and revenue reports to make future projections; works with the Manager to set sales and visitor goals for the year
Maintains trade knowledge by attending educational conferences, seminars, and workshops; stays up to date on current retail and visitor trends
Collaborates with the VPs of Communications & Tourism Development to evaluate current merchandise offerings, seek out and implement ideas for new merchandise, upgrades and updates to merchandise displays
Collaborates with the Communications department for merchandise marketing in store and online
Assists the Visitor Center Manager with daily operations at the VIC:
Greets guests and provides travel information, such as suggested itineraries, brochures, maps, directions, transportation options, and reservations
Oversees printed collateral inventory (brochures, maps, visitor guides)
Assists in training part-time personnel, delegating tasks, monitoring part-time staff activity, providing coaching to part-time staff for maximum performance, and providing informational updates: acts in a supervisory role in the absence of the Visitor Center Manager
Handles customer complaints and involves the Visitor Center Manager when necessary
Opens and closes the VIC following all standards and procedures
Orders all uniform apparel for Visitor Center staff and volunteers
Assists in maintenance of all areas of the center to ensure cleanliness and order
Works with the Manager to execute the Visitor Center’s monthly Louisville Handcrafted Event series:
Creates an annual calendar of events, securing participating partners, restaurants, artists, and entertainment
Participate in day-of-job duties and help staff and partners during event
Manages and maintains the VIC Window Display Program and aids the Manager with the VIC Art Rotation Program:
Reach out to attraction partners to schedule displays and research local artists that would complement current attractions
Serve as leisure brand ambassador by activating across departments to assist Louisville Tourism efforts in the promotion of the destination
Participate and contribute to goals and projects set by Tourism Development Department
Participate in industry organizations and events in order to develop relationships with key contacts or partners

Two to three years of retail experience preferred- specific experience in merchandising, purchasing and inventory control is a plus
One to two years’ experience in hospitality/tourism
Working knowledge of Louisville area and attractions with the ability and desire to learn and teach others
Computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office Suite products; ability to develop spreadsheets and write reports
Ability to always work effectively as a team player
Ability to operate a computer, cash register, and other IT equipment
Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing
Must be people-oriented and enjoy working with the public
Enthusiastic, energetic, and have a positive attitude
Ability to proactively commit to tasks, handle multiple projects at one time, and take initiative with new projects
Ability to supervise people effectively and diplomatically
Self-motivated and dependable
Ability to work in fast-paced environments; remain calm under pressure and resolve challenges
Must be detail-oriented and customer service focused
Other Requirements:

Ability to work weekends, nights, and additional hours as needed
Use of personal vehicle to drive between work sites and pick up merchandise
Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $38,000.00 – $42,000.00 per year
