Summary The Youth Care Worker I is responsible for providing a variety of direct care services to residents, assisting professional staff in the implementation of individual treatment plans, and ensuring the effective operation of the residential program.
Must be at least 21 years old.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Teaches and monitors behaviors/skills according to individualized treatment plans using the Psycho-Educational Model (PEM)
Models appropriate relationships with youth and staff
Teaches meal preparation and living skills
Attends consultation meetings
Monitors and maintains a safe living and learning environment for youth (e.g., bed checks, recreational activities, educational activities, etc.)
Attends to youths’ medical/physical conditions
Assists in the preparation of youth summaries and reports (e.g., clinical summaries, behavioral report cards, discharge summaries, incident reports,etc.)
Assists in processing documents for youth intake and departure
Updates youth files
Participates in shift transition meetings
Attends weekly staff meetings and daily feedback sessions
Transports youth to and from cottage/campus to school, appointments, and outings
This job has no supervisory responsibilities.
To perform the job successfully, an individual should demonstrate the following competencies :
SCM – Staff will demonstrate the 5 C’s of JKM’s Safe Crisis Management: Commitment, Care, Consistency, Competency, and Courage Staff will identify and understand the common sources, characteristics, and types of Behaviors of Concern. Staff will identify, understand, and utilize:
a.) Universal Principles and Practices
b.) Prevention Strategies
c.) De-Escalation Strategies
d.) Emergency Safety Physical Interventions (ESPIs)
e.) Function-based Behavior Support Planning
f.) After Incident Procedures
Staff will demonstrate competency in the SCM curriculum by passing a written test with a score of 85% or higher, and an Emergency Safety Physical Intervention test by scoring 65.5 or more points (out of 70), in all evaluated areas.
PEM – Staff will identify and understand the hallmarks of safety, permanency, and well-being. Staff will identify, understand, and demonstrate the ability to foster and maintain therapeutic relationships. Staff will identify, understand, and create a therapeutic environment. Staff will demonstrate proficiency in the utilization of Teaching Interactions and application of the Motivation System. Staff will demonstrate competency in the PEM curriculum by passing daily written tests and practical skill outs of all Teaching Interactions with a score of 80% or higher, in all evaluated areas.

Education and/or Experience
High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Bachelor’s degree in a preferred field of study desired.
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
To perform this job successfully, employee should have knowledge of Microsoft Office, time keeping software and electronic medical records.

SCM Certification, First Aide/CPR
