Route Skipper – A Unique Position with Velvet Ice Cream Company in Indianapolis, IN

If your answer is “yes” to both questions, we would like to talk with you about a unique position with Velvet Ice Cream Company, a 107-year-old family owned and operated ice cream manufacturer and frozen products distributor.
We call this position a “Route Skipper.” A Route Skipper may cover delivery routes due to an absence by the regularly assigned driver, do in-store merchandising, and grow sales with our customers. So, the Route Skipper has the opportunity to learn all three jobs – delivery, merchandising and sales.
A Route Skipper is expected to be flexible with their schedule. Though the workday starts early, you can expect to be home every evening. Occasional Saturday work may be required if absences or weather disrupt normal schedules.
It is essential for this individual to be a self-starter with the ability to work independently and be adaptable, picking up new job duties on short notice as needs arise. They should be able to follow instructions, learn and become proficient in the use of a hand-held computer and other company systems.
We expect our associates to represent Velvet in a customer-friendly manner and grow relationships with new and existing customers. Having and maintaining a good driving record and successful completion of Velvet’s training programs are required.

HS Diploma or equivalent required.
21 years of age or older to meet DOT requirements.
A valid Driver’s License with a dependable personal vehicle and proof of automobile insurance coverage.
Previous delivery driver experience with a box truck is preferred.
Be capable of climbing up and down from the cab and rear of a truck safely throughout the workday.
Be able to start the workday early in the morning.
Work at least 5 days every week and adjust schedules as needed.
Be able to tolerate sub-zero temperatures for extended time periods.
Lift/carry up to 50 lb. loads regularly without difficulty or discomfort.
Be able to drive both automatic and manual transmission equipped vehicles.
