Job Description

Title:  Maintenance Technician II Department:  Engineering Reports to:  Chief Engineer Starting Pay:  up to $30/hr As a Maintenance Technician II at Kentucky Performing Arts (KPA), you play a key role in making sure the show goes on at Kentucky's premier arts venues.
The Maintenance Technician II repairs and maintains machinery, mechanical equipment and the physical building, and is involved in the overall maintenance of KPA as directed by the Chief Engineer. In this role, you will work on assets and equipment including plumbing, chillers, boilers, pumps, air handlers, cooling towers, and HVAC equipment. You will also replace or install various types of equipment and machinery as directed by the Chief Engineer.

Maintenance Technician II Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Assists with the program of preventive maintenance, including troubleshooting, lubricating and cleaning all equipment and machinery as scheduled.
  • Operates a variety of tools and machines including saws, drills, various hand tools, and multimeters to perform repair and maintenance work. Maintains tools and equipment in a safe, clean, and proper working condition.
  • Prepares the various theaters and support spaces for upcoming events.
  • Cleans, vacuums, mops etc. all areas after work has been performed to maintain building cleanliness.
  • Properly operates a cutting torch and undergoes training in the use of Electric Arc, M.I.G., T.I.G. and acetylene welding.
  • Assures compliance with appropriate safety practices and procedures with applicable federal, state, and local codes/requirements. Responsible for using and maintaining P.P.E.
  • Purchases tools, equipment, and materials as needed. Operates light truck to pick up and deliver equipment and supplies.
  • Maintains equipment and performs preventative maintenance.
  • Monitors the BAS Systems to ensure comfort control is maintained.
  • Attends scheduled meetings when required and attends trainings to maintain current industry knowledge.
  • Executes work order requests and orders parts through the CMMS system as needed.
  • Assists in performing various refrigeration, plumbing, HVAC, and electrical related repairs.
  • Follows proper techniques in servicing, repairing and/or installing machinery and mechanical equipment.
  • Obtains and maintains CPR, First Aid, and AED Certification.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned.
Maintenance Technician II Essential Physical Responsibilities:
  • Ability to effectively communicate in all internal and external relationships for all essential job functions.
  • Above average skills in reading, writing, and speaking English.
  • Ability to sit or stand for long periods of time, as well as stoop, bend, kneel, and crouch.
  • Ability to lift and move up to 50 pounds unassisted with appropriate lifting techniques and/or devices.
  • Specific vision abilities required include: close vision, distant vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
  • This position is subject to drug and alcohol testing, including pre-employment testing, in compliance with Kentucky Performing Arts policy.
Maintenance Technician II Education, License, and Skills:
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Valid USA driver’s license required.
  • 5 years of related work experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of automated HVAC, electric, and plumbing systems required.
  • Knowledge of trade tools, equipment, materials, methods and techniques used in skilled and general maintenance.
  • EPA Universal Certificate preferred.
  • Must be able to work long, irregular hours and weekends as dictated by KPA event schedules and projects. Job may require occasional overtime.
  • Must be flexible, self-motivated, and dependable; able to work independently with little direction.
