Administrative Assistant to the Chief of Police
The Shelbyville Police Department is accepting applications for a full-time Administrative Assistant to the Chief of Police. General Duties: This position serves under the Chief of Police and/or Police Major and routinely works a forty (40) hour work week. Responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to: performing a variety of clerical functions in support of departmental operations; preparing correspondence and reports; answering phones and directing inquiries from members of the public, media, and other organizations to appropriate departmental personnel; conducting general bookkeeping functions; and other related duties as assigned. Education and Experience Qualifications: Must possess a High School diploma or General Educational Development certificate (GED); and have two (2) years of responsible clerical and/or secretarial experience. Special Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Knowledge of office practices, procedures and equipment, including applicable computer hardware and software. Strong organizational skills and problem-solving abilities. Knowledge and experience in typing and computer entry. Ability to establish and maintain filing system accurately and efficiently Ability to perform basic bookkeeping. Ability to prepare correspondence, forms, reports, etc., independently and accurately. Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing. Ability to prioritize duties and multi-task. Ability to accept phone calls, greet visitors, and route to appropriate person. Ability to work independently as well as with a team. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with city officers, employees, and the general public. Salary: $20.90- $25.10 based on experience.
