Description:
A professional nurse is accountable for the care of a group of patients.
The Registered Nurse focuses on safe, effective patient and family-centered care, customer satisfaction, and quality outcomes.
The RN is responsible for assisting in maintaining a financially stable unit.
The RN promotes his/her own development with an emphasis on evidence-based practice and education supported by a governance framework.
The RN supervises licensed and non-licensed staff members.
Applying the caring processes of the Kristin M. Swanson Model of Care, the RN has the responsibility to assess, develop, implement, and evaluate the plan of care.
The RN focuses on patient and family comfort, education, and satisfaction.
The RN applies his/her educational and professional experiences in the delivery of quality care and mentoring/precepting staff.
Job Responsibilities:
Assessment: Performs assessments and reassessments per policy and procedure or as warranted by patient condition.
Demonstrates the ability to make sound independent decisions.
Development & Implementation: Initiates, prioritizes, and implements the plan of care.
Reviews and revises the plan as indicated.
Collaborates with patients/families and interdisciplinary services.
Utilizes resources appropriately to support the needs of the organization, patients, and families.
Evaluation: Monitors and documents response to clinical interventions.
Education: Facilitates, coordinates, provides, and evaluates education specific to patient/family needs.
As appropriate to the care, treatment, and services provided during their stay and at discharge.
Leadership: Delegates tasks to licensed and non-licensed personnel.
Functions as a mentor/preceptor.
Demonstrates, encourages, and facilitates teamwork.
Identifies and appropriately communicates opportunities for improvement.
Participates in quality, safety, and service process improvement efforts and implements practice changes.
Complies with regulatory standards.
Participates in the governance model.
