Job description:
The Hat Shoppe is seeking an experienced, creative, and dependable Retail Store Manager to lead daily store operations while supporting our hands-on, artistic environment. The ideal candidate has previous retail management experience, excellent customer-service skills, and sewing experience.
This is the perfect role for someone who can confidently manage a busy retail floor one moment and pick up a needle and thread the next.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as Manager and participate in daily store operations
- Open and close the store and manage cash procedures
- Lead, support, and motivate the retail team
- Create a warm, memorable, and personalized experience for every customer
- Assist customers with hat selection, styling, sizing, and special orders
- Meet individual and store sales goals
- Maintain visual merchandising and ensure the store always looks polished and inviting
- Manage inventory, restocking, product receiving, and supply needs
- Help coordinate staff schedules, daily priorities, and special events
- Resolve customer concerns professionally and confidently
- Support hat finishing, alterations, repairs, and other creative studio projects
- Use hand-sewing and machine-sewing skills to complete approved tasks
- Assist during peak seasons, private appointments, events, and high-volume Derby periods
Qualifications
- Previous retail management, key-holder, or supervisor experience required
- Strong sewing skills, including hand sewing and machine-sewing experience
- Retail sales and customer-service experience
- Creative eye with an appreciation for fashion, design, craftsmanship, or millinery
- Confident leadership and decision-making skills
- Excellent communication, organization, and time-management abilities
- Comfortable working independently and taking initiative
- Detail-oriented and committed to high-quality work
- Able to manage multiple priorities in a creative environment
- Comfortable learning hat-fitting, styling, finishing, and basic millinery techniques
- Available to work weekends, special events, and extended hours during peak seasons

- Location: The Hat Shoppe: 1201 Story Ave. Louisville, KY 40206
- Schedule: Store is Open, Monday-Friday 11am-5pm, Saturday 10am-5pm.
- Compensation: $18/hr. plus commissions
