Description:
A professional nurse is accountable for the care of a group of patients.
The Registered Nurse (RN) focuses on safe and effective patient and family-centered care.
Customer satisfaction and quality outcomes are essential aspects of the role.
The RN is responsible for assisting in maintaining a financially stable unit.
The RN promotes their own development with an emphasis on evidence-based practice and education.
Supervision of licensed and non-licensed staff members is part of the RN's responsibilities.
The RN applies the caring processes and is responsible for assessing, developing, implementing, and evaluating the plan of care.
Patient and family comfort, education, and satisfaction are primary focuses.
The RN applies educational and professional experiences to deliver quality care.
Mentoring and precepting staff is also a key responsibility of the RN.
Job Responsibilities:
- Performs assessments and reassessments per policy or as warranted by patient condition.
- Demonstrates the ability to make sound independent decisions.
- Initiates, prioritizes, and implements the plan of care.
- Reviews and revises the plan as indicated.
- Collaborates with patient/family and interdisciplinary services.
- Utilizes resources appropriately to support the needs of the organization and patient/family.
- Monitors and documents response to clinical interventions.
- Facilitates, coordinates, provides, and evaluates education specific to patient/family needs.
- Delegates tasks to licensed and non-licensed personnel.
- Functions as a mentor/preceptor and encourages teamwork.
- Identifies and communicates opportunities for improvement.
- Participates in quality, safety, and service process improvement efforts.
- Implements practice changes in compliance with regulatory standards.
- Participates in the governance model.
