Job Description

The Shelbyville Police Department is accepting applications for a part-time Public Safety Official. General Duties:  This position serves under the Chief of Police and/or the Police Major.  Working hours will not extend past twenty-four (24) hours in a week.  Responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to: assisting sworn police officers in providing traffic control at accident scenes, special events, and other incidents; reporting and investigating minor, non-injury traffic accidents; responding to motorist assist calls and providing assistance to stranded motorists; escorting funeral processions; monitoring parking areas and issuing parking tickets to illegally parked vehicles; and issuing citations for non-moving motor vehicle offenses as set forth under Chapter 83A of the Kentucky Revised Statutes (KRS) and city ordinances. Education and Experience Qualifications:  High school diploma or General Educational Development certificate (GED). Must possess a valid driver’s license.  Upon hire, must complete 120 hours of training per KRS 83A.088 to become certified as a Public Safety Official. Special Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Knowledge of the streets and landmarks throughout the City of Shelbyville.  Knowledge and experience in typing and computer entry.  Proficiency with assigned computer and operating systems to review and submit all reports electronically.  Ability to prepare correspondence, forms, reports, etc., independently and accurately.  Ability to communicate effectively, orally, and in writing.  Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with city officers, employees, and the general public. Salary:  $20.00/hour.
