Summary Objective
The purpose of this position is to assess and counsel clients regarding nutrition needs. Prepare training
materials and instruct clients in nutrition principles, diet, food selection and economics.
This class works under general supervision, independently developing work methods and sequences.

Examples of Duties

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

The essential functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the class as necessary.

  • Prepares reports and correspondence, completes special projects, and maintains records and files.
  • Participates in clinic operations by interviewing and assessing the nutritional status of clients and certifies clients for participation in nutrition programs.
  • Records diets, histories, and related personal information of clients in medical records.
  • Develops, obtains, and distributes nutrition and education materials.
  • Counsel clients in nutrition principles, diets, food selection and economics for adaptation to lifestyles.
  • Prepares and conducts nutrition education lectures and classes for clients and other groups.
  • Participates in training sessions and consultations with professional and support personnel concerning basic nutrition, therapeutic diets, and program services.
  • Provides instruction to clerical personnel.
  • Provides support to multiple locations, including non-Metro locations.
  • Performs related work as assigned.

 

Minimum Requirements

 

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Dietetics, Nutrition, or related discipline.

 

OTHER MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be licensed as a Dietitian or certified as a Nutritionist by the Kentucky Board of Licensure and Certification for Dietitians and Nutritionists within one year of employment per KRS 310.021 and/or KRS 310.031.
  • Must have completed a Dietetic internship.
  • Must be vaccinated for hepatitis B, have provided evidence of immunity, or have signed a declination form within ten days of initial assignment.
  • Must provide one's own source of transportation.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid state driver’s license with an acceptable driving history.
  • Must wear personal protective equipment as mandated by OSHA.
  • Requires flexibility to work varied schedules, which may include changes in work hours or work location, in accordance with operational needs

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Physical demands refer to the requirements for physical exertion and coordination of limb and body movement.

  • Performs sedentary work that involves walking or standing some of the time and involves exerting up to 10 pounds of force on a regular and recurring basis or sustained keyboard operations.

 

UNAVOIDABLE HAZARDS (WORK ENVIRONMENT):

Unavoidable hazards refer to the job conditions that may lead to injury or health hazards even though precautions have been taken.
