Your Job in a Nutshell:
As a Maintenance Technician III at Kentucky Performing Arts (KPA), you play a key role in making sure the show goes on at Kentucky's premier arts venues.
Maintenance Technician III is a hands-on lead position. You will provide support to all central systems of KPA, offer guidance to KPA Engineering staff, contact and communicate with vendors and contractors, and attend meetings. You will perform maintenance and repair of central plant assets and equipment including chillers, boilers, pumps, air handlers, cooling towers, and HVAC equipment, and you will maintain and monitor Energy Management Control Systems for temperature control and lighting scheduling. This skilled position is responsible for carrying out the repair and maintenance of the physical buildings and is involved in the overall operations of Kentucky Performing Arts as directed by the Chief Engineer.

Your Duties and Responsibilities:
- Uphold a program of preventive maintenance, including troubleshooting, lubricating and cleaning all equipment and machinery as needed.
- Operate a variety of tools, equipment and machines including multi-meters, saws, drills, and various hand tools to perform repair and maintenance work. Maintain tools and equipment in a safe, clean, and proper working condition.
- Prepare the various theaters and support spaces for upcoming events.
- Properly operate a cutting torch and undergo training in the use of Electric Arc, M.I.G., T.I.G. and acetylene welding.
- Assure compliance with appropriate safety practices and procedures with applicable federal, state, and local codes/requirements.
- Perform a variety of skilled work in maintenance and repair. Prioritize, schedule, and coordinate the work assigned to accomplish a variety of duties related to building trades.
- Purchase tools, equipment, and materials. Operate light truck to pick up and deliver equipment and supplies.
- Maintain equipment and perform preventive maintenance. Troubleshoot and repair equipment and perform inspections to ensure efficient operation.
- Monitor Energy Management Control Systems to ensure comfort control is maintained and repair HVAC related equipment as needed.
- Attend scheduled meetings and required training to maintain current industry knowledge.
- Track work requests and order parts through the Facility Management System.
- Support KPA by providing various other maintenance support such as electrical repairs, plumbing repairs, and general campus maintenance.
- Make skilled trade and journey-level repairs or installations depending on area of assignment and expertise.
- Perform various refrigeration, plumbing, HVAC, and electrical related duties.
- Plan jobs, make sketches and see that necessary materials are ordered for each job.
- Follow proper techniques in servicing, repairing and/or installing machinery and mechanical equipment.
- Clean, vacuum, mop, etc. all areas after work has been performed to maintain building cleanliness.
- Serve as a member of the Safety Committee and the Fire Crew.
- Obtain and maintain CPR, First Aid, and AED Certification.
- Perform all other duties as assigned.
Your Physical Responsibilities:
- Ability to effectively communicate in all internal and external relationships for all essential job functions.
- Above average skills in reading, writing, and speaking English.
- Ability to sit or stand for long periods of time, as well as stoop, bend, kneel, and crouch.
- Ability to lift and move up to 50 pounds unassisted with appropriate lifting techniques and/or devices.
- Specific vision abilities required include: close vision, distant vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
- This position is subject to drug and alcohol testing, including pre-employment testing, in compliance with Kentucky Performing Arts policy.
Your Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or its equivalency, and technical certification or training in a trade (HVAC, electrical).
- Valid USA driver’s license required.
- HVAC or electrical certifications.
- EPA Universal Certification required.
- A minimum of 7-10 years of related work experience.
- Knowledge to work with and control automated HVAC systems equipment to include DDC and pneumatics controls and devices is required.
- Knowledge of trade tools, equipment, materials, methods and techniques used in skilled and general maintenance. General knowledge of electrical, heating and air conditioning, plumbing, carpentry, and locksmithing.
- Strong written and oral communication skills with the ability to communicate well, both inside and outside the organization.
- Must be able to work long, irregular hours and weekends as dictated by event schedules and projects. The ability to work independently with little direction.
- Must be flexible, intrinsically motivated, and dependable; job may require occasional overtime.
